Post-operative care

The specialists at Colorado Nerve Care are leaders in restoring normal sensation and function after surgery.

Possible nerve complications of surgery include:

  • Hypersensitivity after a period of immobilization such as a cast
  • Nerve injury during surgery for a different issue
  • Pain persists after surgery despite follow-up imaging that looks great
  • Treatment protocols for restoring nervous system function
  • Hypersensitivity

The nerves tell the brain what is happening in the environment, but after a period of immobilization, they can start to function incorrectly. It’s like having a fire alarm that goes off with lighting a birthday candle. Through a series of exercises, nerves and the brain start to perceive and sense reality correctly. This generally takes only 2-3 visits to correct.

Nerve Injury

Nerve injury during surgery may lead to loss of sensation, loss of muscle function, or having strange sensations like crawling ants on the skin. The nervous system has a strong ability to regenerate or make up for missing areas by having a backup system. Depending on the extent of the injury, we can work towards improving your nerve health, circulation and potential to regrow, or activate the duplicate systems to restore muscle and sensory function.

Persistent Pain

Pain may persist after surgery despite clean follow-up imaging. We review the history and imaging to determine whether there is likely a continuing tissue problem, a new nerve injury, or a processing issue with the central nervous system. With the correct diagnosis, an effective treatment can be applied.
